Things to Consider When Purchasing an Industrial Air Compressor

Air compressors have been around for more than 100 years and have undergone substantial innovation in that time. The main function of any compressor is to increase the air pressure and to decrease the volume of the gas. Though the function is the same no matter what type of compressor you have, they each have a different way of doing so. Knowing the differences between types of compressors is crucial when deciding which is best for your needs.

When picking an air compressor for industrial use you have many specifications to evaluate. For example, if you’re in the market for a reciprocating compressor, you can pick between single-stage and two-stage compressors.

In single-stage compressors, the air is drawn in and pressed to its final pressure in a single stroke. Single-stage compressors are ideal for circumstances when the air compressor is required to produce air pressure up to 150 psi. Single-stage compressors also, in most cases, have a higher Cubic Feet per Minute rating than two-stage compressors.

Two-stage compressors, on the other hand, use two strokes to compress air giving them the ability to generate much higher pressures. Two-stage compressors are ideal when you need pressures above 150 psi.

Other questions you should yourself when buying an air compressor include:

  1. What is the minimum expected operating pressure from the compressor that you are planning to purchase?
  2. What are your CFM requirements?
  3. Do you require a portable compressor or a stationary one?
  4. What should be the size of the receiver tank?

Once you have the answers to all the above-listed questions, you will be able to make a better decision regarding making the purchase.  We also recommended that you carefully look at the individual specifications and functions of compressors before you make your final decision on which to purchase.
