Cycling air dryers are a type of refrigerated dryer that uses a thermal storage medium to store excess cooling capacity when the dryer is operating at less than full load. When the thermal mass is sufficiently chilled, the dryer’s refrigeration compressor switches off and the air is dried solely by the thermal medium. The refrigeration compressor restarts when the thermal medium becomes too warm to dry the air. Since the refrigeration compressor is not constantly running, cycling air dryers can realize significant energy savings.
